Celebrating 90 Years of the Telscombe Cliffs WI – With a Special Post Box Topper

Celebrating 90 Years of the Telscombe Cliffs WI – With a Special Post Box Topper

If you've passed by the Telscombe Cliffs Post Office recently, you may have noticed a splash of colour and creativity perched proudly on the red post box.
That’s right – it’s one of my handmade crochet post box toppers, created to mark a very special occasion: the 90th anniversary of the Telscombe Women’s Institute.
I was approached by a lovely lady (you know who you are!) who kindly asked if I would be willing to create a commemorative piece for this milestone event. Well of course I said yes – it was an honour to be asked.
This particular topper features three wonderful ladies – suffragettes – holding banners in celebration of the strength, community, and history of women coming together, much like the Women’s Institute itself. Each figure was carefully crafted with love and detail.

I wanted the piece to not only be eye-catching, but meaningful.
Telscombe WI has been part of our community for nearly a century, and it felt fitting to honour that legacy through craft – a tradition that so many WI members have cherished over the years.
The suffragette theme reflects the pioneering spirit of women past and present, and I hope it inspires everyone who sees it to feel proud of what women can achieve when they support one another.
Creating these toppers is a labour of love, and it brings me so much joy to contribute to our local area.
Thank you to everyone who’s stopped to admire the display, taken a photo, or left a kind comment – it means the world.
Happy 90th Anniversary, Telscombe WI! And thank you for letting Nanny Bears Crochet be a part of your story.
With love and yarn,
