Post Box Topper Magic in Rottingdean: A Creative Nod to the Save the Library Campaign
Share
There’s something truly special about creating for the community, and recently I had the joy of making a post box topper in Rottingdean that was more than just decorative—it was a heartfelt contribution to a very important cause.
How It All Began
It all began when a lovely lady, impressed by some previous toppers I'd created for the Rottingdean post box, approached me with a heartfelt request. She explained that the village was rallying behind the Save the Library Campaign, and she wondered if I could craft a topper that would both celebrate our love of books and raise awareness for the campaign. Of course, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to support such a worthwhile cause.
Bringing the Idea to Life
Inspired by the campaign’s mission, I set to work on a design that was both charming and meaningful. I created a little pile of books—a universal symbol of knowledge, adventure, and community. But the real centrepiece was the cute little bookworm perched atop the stack. With his tiny, round glasses and engrossed expression, he seemed to be reading his own book, inviting onlookers to imagine a world of stories and wisdom.
Every detail was lovingly handcrafted, I aimed to create a piece that not only caught the eye but also sparked a connection with our shared passion for libraries and literature.
A Heart warming Reception at the Fayre
The topper debuted the night before the Rottingdean Village Summer Fayre, and I was overwhelmed by the warm reception. One of the most memorable moments was seeing people stop by my stall—not just to admire all my crochet goodies I had for sale, but to personally thank me for contributing to the Save the Library Campaign. Each “special thank you” and smile was a reminder of why I love being part of this creative community and supporting such important causes. It was truly an honour to see my work resonating with so many locals, each one reminding me that small acts of art can make a big difference.
More Than Just a Topper
In many ways, the topper is more than just a decorative piece on a post box. It represents a collective commitment to preserving the joy of reading and ensuring that libraries, as community hubs of knowledge, continue to thrive. The Save the Library Campaign isn’t just about keeping books on the shelves—it’s about celebrating the stories, histories, and dreams that make every community unique.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by at the fayre, shared your kind words, and supported this campaign. Let’s keep celebrating the magic of books and the libraries that bring us all together.
Stay creative, and never stop reading!!
