Recently, I had the privilege of working on a truly special project for the "Loose Ends Project", I am a "finisher" for this wonderful charity.
A lovely lady, Branwen had entrusted me with a bag of granny squares, lovingly crocheted by her aunt who had sadly passed away before she could join then all. Each square, vibrant and unique, held a piece of her aunt's heart and a lifetime of memories. The yarn was beautiful too, a delicate mohair, a luxurious and versatile fibre that comes from the coat of the Angora goat. It's known for its exceptional softness, lustre, and warmth, so i really enjoyed this project!
My heart swelled with a sense of responsibility as I began the task of assembling these squares into a comforting blanket. It was more than just a crochet project; it was a way to honour her aunt's creativity and ensure that her love lived on.
As I meticulously joined the squares, I imagined her aunt's hands, nimble and skilled, creating each one with care. I thought of the stories that might be woven into the colours and patterns, the quiet moments of joy and the love poured into every stitch.
With the remaining squares, I created a small cushion, a delightful companion to the blanket.
The day Branwen came to collect her treasures was truly heart-warming. Her eyes lit up as she saw the finished blanket, and I could feel the wave of emotion washing over her. To see her embrace the blanket, a tangible connection to her beloved aunt, was an incredibly rewarding experience and I think she liked the little cushion too :-)
This project has been a deeply moving journey, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful initiative. Thank you Branwen for entrusting me with this and thank you to loose Ends!
The Loose Ends Project: A Legacy of Love

I am now eagerly awaiting Branwen return to the UK after her holiday, so she can collect the next blanket I've finished for her. This blanket is over 50 years old, and has succumbed to a few holes, so this time it was a bit more of an intricate project, I had to match the yarns as best I could .....more on this once Branwen arrives back....so watch this space.
I hope you enjoyed reading about this heart-warming project!
